Allergy Medicines for Babies

Babies are highly sensitive in terms of their skin and immune system. Identifying the cause of the allergic reaction or sensitivity can help parents prevent and treat any of their unpleasant allergy symtoms.

A baby can have an allergic reaction for number of reasons. If your baby’s allergies get worse during certain seasons, it may be that he or she is suffering from hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis or year-round allergic rhinitis. The most common allergy reaction in kids are sneezing, sniffling, and other symptoms when some trees, grasses, and weeds are in bloom. Pollen from trees and plants are aslo among the most common allergy triggers in babies.

Your baby may suffer from year-round allergies otherwise known as perennial allergic rhinitis because he or she is in contact with allergens that are present all or most of the year. These include cockroaches, bedbugs, cat hair, dog hair, mold spores, feather pillows or bedding.

Antihistamines are some of the most commonly prescribed allergy medicine for babies.

Some of this antihistamine-allergy medicine for babies are Allegra, Clarinex tablets or syrup, Claritin, and Zyrtec syrup or chewable tables . Please be aware that some of this over-the-counter antihistamines can make kids drowsy.

As always, consult your pediatrician before giving any allergy medicine to your infant, since some of this antihistmaines are not safe for babies and should be used with great caution.
